Question #9 - Are there any risks and long term effects from taking Triptan medication?

Answer #9 - In terms of long term effects we don’t know of any. There is always a precaution with the Triptan medications that they not be given to patients who have coronary artery disease or heart disease. We know that all of the Triptans cause a certain tightening or constriction of the coronary blood vessels and so they should not be used in that particular patient population, but that is a relatively short term side effect, not a long term effect.
